APP Review

App logo
I thought it was about time for an App review. For some time now we have used the App WikiCamps, and in short, it is a great app to have on your phone.
We have used the app extensively throughout Australia (mobile networks allowing) and I can highly recommend it.
It’s not free like many apps out there, having said that, it not one of those that sucks you in as a Free app to only find out that without the in-app purchases it is useless. This app is a once of fee, at a reasonable price. Let’s face it holidaying is so expensive anyway what’s a couple of dollars. I would say that this app has paid for itself many times over. Currently costing A$7.99 from the Apple App Store.

Find sites with ease
WikiCamps makes it incredibly easy to find sites. Simple tap the site list to see sites nearest to your current location, or use the map screen to see exactly where they are on a street or satellite view.
You can also use the site filters to narrow down your results and only show sites relative to your needs.
Eg. Has toilets, is pet friendly, etc.
Works offline
WikiCamps gives you the ability to download all site and user content, as well as a high quality vector map onto your device.
This means you will never get lost and always be able to find a site, read reviews and see photos, even when you do not have signal coverage.
Navigation and directions
Navigation is just one click away.
You can tap the Get Directions button from the list screen, map screen or the site’s details page – then choose your favourite navigation app to guide you there.
You can also choose to view your route right on the WikiCamps map to help find and plan other stops along the way.
How we use it
We initially purchased the App to assist with ‘free’ campsites, which has proven valuable and convenient, especially when you’re on the go, one can be driving, the other can be searching for the next campsite. It feels even better if that morning you left a caravan park, paid $60 for one night for you and the family, to then find a hidden gem that costs you nothing.
More recently, and probably because it’s second nature now, but we find ourselves using it for paid campgrounds and caravan parks. I find that reviews on many sites are moderated somewhat, whereas comments, and reviews on WikiCamps don’t seem to be from experience. Recently we were going to stay in Melbourne for a weekend. I thought we would try another park to the one we often stay in. The park looked good, the reviews on THEIR site looked good. I was just about to book, when I thought, while I have my phone in my hand I should have a quick look on WikiCamps. Well I’m glad I did, there was comment after comment, it is not the place for kids. According to the comments there are fights in the park nightly, drug dealing all day and night, the list goes on, hence we went back to the old faithful. Thanks contributors.
